Vasily Alekseyev; Soviet weight lifter dominated sport
Vasily Alekseyev, the Soviet super heavyweight lifter who won two Olympic gold medals and set 80 world records, reigning as the so-called world’s strongest man in the 1970s, died Friday at a heart clinic in Badenhausen, Germany. He was 69.
