Vin McLellan helped launch Boston’s alternative press scene in the early 1970s, became a wide-ranging freelance writer and author, then changed course. In the 1980s, when few homes had computers and reporters still needed to describe what the word Internet meant, Vin McLellan already was focusing on concerns that would dominate future discussions. “I think he made significant enduring contributions to the Internet community and to computer security,’’ said Kenneth P. Weiss, founder and former chairman of Security Dynamics.
