Former broadcaster Dave Maynard, a long-time announcer for both WBZ-TV and WBZ-AM, has died, WBZ reported this evening. Maynard, a 2009 inductee into the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame, began his career in 1952 at WHIL radio. He worked 44 years for WBZ, in jobs that included hosting Community Auditions, which showcased amateur talent from the area for 21 years, the Hall of Fame website said. The website described him as “the neighborly voice and genial face of WBZ, no matter when you heard or saw him -- in his mid-morning music program, in late-night talk, in his wakeup show, in his television talent show, or in his fundraising for charitable organizations.”
