Anthony Shadid, twice awarded the Pulitzer Prize for international reporting, “had a gift for finding the heart of a really big story through the lives of individual people, and for bringing big confusing chaotic moments into focus by telling simple stories about ordinary lives,” said Philip Bennett, a former Washington Post colleague. Reporting for The Associated Press, the Globe, the Post, and The New York Times, Mr. Shadid became the premier foreign correspondent of his time covering the Middle East.
