Experiences in World War II prompted Paul Brailsford to campaign against war later in life. He was a founder and past president of the Samantha Smith chapter of Veterans for Peace on the North Shore. “There’s a stereotype that veterans are pro-war,’’ said John Schuchardt of Ipswich, who belongs to Veterans for Peace. “But there are so many veterans who become anti-war, then become leaders in the peace movement. Paul was one of a wide range of vets who had a change of perspective because of the war.’’
