Cyclists start the 12th stage of the Tour of Spain between Burgos and Suances on September 11, 2008. Italy's Paolo Bettini of the Quick Step team won the stage while Italy's Davide Rebellin of Gerolsteiner finished in second and Italian Damiano Cunego of Lampre was third. Spaniard Egoi Martinez of Euskaltel retained the race leader's gold jersey after the 186.4 km race between Burgos and Suances which saw title contender Alejandro Valverde lose time in the overall standings.
