
Barry Chin, a 1982 graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology, has been a staff photographer at the Boston Globe since 1987. Prior to working at the Globe he was a staff photographer for the Boston Herald. He also worked at the Hartford Courant as a full time freelancer.
During Chin's career at the Boston Globe he received the National Headliners Award for Spot News in 1989 for coverage of Hurricane Hugo. In 1996, Barry was first place winner of the International Olympic Committee's Best of Sport Photographic Contest, Golden Lens Award, and recipient of The National Headliners Award for Sports Action. That year he also won second place for Sports Picture Story in The World Press Photo Contest. Barry has also covered the 1992, 2002 and 2004 Olympic games.
Barry won Best of Show and 1st place Feature in the 2003 National Baseball Hall of Fame Photo Contest and 1st place Action in 2004. He has received numerous awards from the National Press Photographers Association, the Boston Press Photographers Association, and the Associated Press. He received a 1st place sports portfolio award in 2004 from the NPPA's Best of Photojournalism Photo Contest and 2nd place sports portfolio award in the annual Pictures of The Year contest that same year.
Barry lives on the South Shore of Boston with his wife Renee and their four children.
