Wanted: a new lawyer for Ashland

The Ashland Board of Selectmen has dropped its longtime attorney, David M. Thomas.

Since 2002, the town has paid Thomas more than $761,000.

Board Vice Chair John P. Kirwan declined to discuss what precipitated the board’s decision to let Thomas go, saying the selectmen are “moving in a different direction."

Thomas, of the Boston firm Donovan Hatem, had been the town counsel for 13 years. He did not return calls seeking comment. He also serves as special counsel to the town of Hanson. Read more about this story in Sunday's Globe West.
