As anyone who's found their choice of parking meters or more checkout clerks than customers at the supermarket lately knows, one of the scarcest local summer commodities is people.
A good gauge of exactly how much humans are at a premium this time of year can be found on Craigslist.
Current Newton postings include pleas for a walking partner ["must love dogs"], a slow pitch softball player, a tennis partner, an early-a.m. or evening running partner ["up for 5 - 7 miles....any pace works"], Czech or Slovak speakers, and a volunteer to work with kids in the playspace of a local program for survivors of domestic violence.
