President to retire

NEWTON

David M. Gordis, who has been president of Hebrew College in Newton for 13 years, announced yesterday that he will retire from his position in 2009.

Gordis, 66, also a professor, had originally planned to retire next year , but the college's Board of Trustees asked him to stay for two additional years. According to the college, student enrollment has more than tripled during Gordis's tenure, from 177 to more than 600.
