Skidding through school

REGION

Kelsey Lindholm of Southborough and Patrick Spiegel of Sudbury were among those who careened through a "skid school" this weekend.

The special driving school took place on a runway at the Fort Devens/Mass Development Airfield in Ayer Saturday. It was organized by Stevens Advanced Driver Training of Bedford, N.H.

The school offers instruction in five areas: braking, cornering through a slalom course, tailgating, backing up and lane changing, the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester reports.

Martha Bartle, who helped organize the school as manager of the Mass Auto Dealers Charitable Foundation, which helps pay for the program, told the newspaper that the school is mostly about "accident avoidance."
