NEWTON

The state Public Health Council has approved a plan by a Newton firm to take over the operation of two rehabilitation hospitals in Massachusetts, the Globe reports today.

Five Star Quality Care Inc., which runs nursing homes and assisted living centers in 27 states, is set to take over hospitals in Woburn and Braintree. The two hospitals employ a total of 1,400 people and are owned by Senior Housing Property Trust of Newton.
