Some day in the future, a crisis in the Newton Public Schools will automatically generate hundreds of e-mails, pages and telephone messages to worried parents within 15 minutes, school officials say.
To make this "Reverse 911" system a reality, the schools have received a $330,625 grant from the US Department of Education, Superintendent Jeffrey Young said this week.
The federal funds will also be used for training of school personnel in crisis response, education material for students, and on workshops for parents.
