For those who feared that the Bloomingdales in the Chestnut Hill Mall would be replaced by a huge black void, fear not. Macy's has plans to open up one of its most upscale department stores in place of Bloomingdales in March.
Bloomingdales is moving its women's apparel down the street to the Mall at Chestnut Hill, to a space that was once occupied by Filene's.
Federated Department Stores, which owns Macy's and Bloomingdales, completed last month a conversion of about 400 regional department stores, including Filene's, into the Macy's brand, creating a national shopping empire of more than 800 stores, according to the Boston Globe's Business Ticker.
