The ups and downs of taxes, Southborough edition

SOUTHBOROUGH

Taxes on the average single family home in Southborough are likely to jump more than $400 next year if the state approves new figures prepared by the assessorís office.

Preliminary figures on the fiscal 2007 tax rate were shared with the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night, but will not be officially accepted until the boardís Dec. 5 meeting, Selectmen Chairman Roger Challen said.

Annual taxes on the average single family home in Southborough are expected to rise $406 from $6,883 to $7,289, a 5.9 percent increase, Challen said. That number reflects a raise in the tax rate from $12.36 per $1,000 of value to $12.58 and an increase in the value of the average single family home in the town from $556,900 to $579,400.
