Westborough selectmen refuse to reopen case of town counsel

WESTBOROUGH

The Westborough Board of Selectmen has unanimously agreed to not to re-open the search for town counsel and to reaffirm their Sept. 20 appointment of Gregory B. Franks of Boston.

Franks, the sole recommendation of the search committee, started his three-year job on Oct. 23.

The names of other two candidates, Andrea W. McCarthy, and Mary A. Maslowski, were made public last week after Worcester Superior Court judge Jeffrey A. Locke’s ruled that the town violated the state’s open meting laws by considering the three finalists in closed session.

McCarthy is a Medway resident with an office in her hometown. Maslowski, a Marlborough resident, is currently assistant corporate counsel for the City of Chelsea.
