Tony Gonzalez and David Wright played their high school football 10 miles apart. Gonzalez directed Framingham High to a Division 2 Super Bowl title over Acton-Boxboro in 2000 while Wright was a force at middle linebacker the same fall for Dave Sperandio at Millis High.
Gonzalez prepped at Worcester Academy, while Wright attended Navy Prep.
Saturday afternoon, the two will line up on opposing lines of scrimmage -- each playing his final college football game -- when Boston College squares off against the Naval Academy in the Meineke Car Care Bowl (ESPN, 1 p.m.) in Charlotte, N.C.
The 5-foot-11, 202-pound Gonzalez, No. 26 in your program, is the second-leading receiver for BC (39 catches, 5 TDs). The senior wide receiver has 85 catches with 12 touchdowns.
A late bloomer, the 6-foot-3, 274-pound Wright has started six of 12 games at nose guard for Navy, registering 30 tackles, including 8.5 tackles for losses. He wears No. 97 for the Midshipmen.
