Moresi at a recent practice Some of the girls wondered if Phil "Smokey" Moresi knew what he was doing when he took over as girls' basketball coach at Ashland. Not to worry. It's been a while since the the 60-year-old athletic director, who took over when coach Karen Renaud hurt her knee, was on the sidelines. But he has an extensive resume coaching high school and college basketball that might be the envy of many, including a streak of 52 high school league game victories. Moresi, who has never coached girls before, said he's adjusting. The bus ride home from a recent game was different, he says in the Globe West Take 5 column today.
