On the court, the Marborough High varsity boys' basketball team is undefeated with a perfect 11-0 mark.
But off the court, the Panthers are dealing with a recent incident involving their leading scorer, Chris Pinsonault.
Last Friday, Pinsonault, 17, was charged with possession of marijuana, the Worcester Telegram reported in today's editions.
According to the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association handbook, the first offense for a student caught with an illegal substance is a five-game suspension.
Marlborough High athletic director Rich Riley, reached by phone in his office this morning, declined comment. "I'm not at liberty to discuss the situation, it's private," said Riley.
A junior guard, Pinsonault leads the Panthers and the Mid-Wach B league in scoring (23.5 points per game). He scored 29 points in Marlborough's win over Groton-Dunstable last Thursday night. He was on the bench, but did not play in Tuesday's 74-40 win over Nashoba.
