Pint-sized Picassos will show off their mastery of cubism and impasto next Monday in the Children’s Room of the Needham Public Library.
Mitchell School teacher Jen Ramras’s kindergarten students recently completed a Meet the Masters program, in which they took imaginary trips to Amsterdam and Paris and studied the techniques of Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Henri Matisse, Georgia O’Keefe, and Jackson Pollock. Students learned techniques such as pointillism, complementary colors, and the use of positive and negative space.
The five and six-year-old students will act as gallery directors by choosing 100 works for display, discussing the art with patrons, and discussing the age-old question: What is art?
The free exhibition takes place May 14 from 6 to 7:30. A harpist will provide musical entertainment and refreshments will be served.
