ASHLAND

A 39-year-old Berlin man drowned Friday while taking a swim at Hopkinton State Park.

Police say Darren Oram was at the park's lower beach area in Ashland with a friend when they decided to go in the water yesterday evening. But Oram's friend lost sight of him, then a few moments later saw Oram at the bottom of the pond. Oram never regained consciousness.

Three lifeguards work in the area where Oram drowned, but were unable to save him.
