Man hurt diving into shallow water
ASHLAND
A day of summer fun at Ashland State Park quickly came to crashing end after a 19-year-old swimmer cut his head diving into two feet of water, WHDH Channel 7 television is reporting
The victim was reportedly swinging on a rope swing when he fell approximately 20 feet into shallow water.
"When we arrived, a camp member said that the nurse from the camp and two lifeguards were over there," Lt David Iarussi, Ashland Fire Department, said.
The good Samaritans swam 75 feet out to the island where the injured man was. Firefighters didn't waste anytime trying to rescue the victim. Instead of waiting for their boat to arrive, they borrowed two canoes, and paddled towards the scene.
Fire officials found the man conscious, but in extreme pain. He was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center, however there is no word on his condition.
