A 12-year-old Newton boy driving a Jet Ski in the waters off of Martha's Vineyard crashed the watercraft into a small boat yesterday, briefly knocking a local kindergarten teacher unconscious and spilling her husband and two children into the water.
Anne Davey, her husband Allen, and their two children ages 7 and 9, all of Oak Bluff, were all taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the Martha's Vineyard Times newspaper reported on its web site.
The Newton boy, who was not identified, was not injured and both he and his six-year-old brother stayed on the watercraft after the crash. After conferring with the assistant district attorney and Environmental Police, Oak Bluffs police on Tuesday issued a citation to the father, Bradford Smith of Newton, for allowing operation of a Jet Ski by a person under the age of 16, a civil offense.
Police also issued a citation warning to the 12-year-old for operating a jet ski under the age of 16, the newspaper reported.
