Santa comes to Nonantum

Alderman-at-Large Allan Ciccone, Jr. holds the ladder while Anthony Pellegrini III, grandson of "Fat" Pellegrini, puts the finishing touches on Santa.
As part of a tradition that goes back to the 1950's, Santa Claus has come to town. As chairman of the Nonantum Children's Christmas Party Association, Anthony Pellegrini, Jr (Son of the late Anthony "Fat" Pellegrini) says the tradition helps maintain the Christmas spirit in Newton.
"Whether it was the parties we were throwing for the kids up until 1992, or having a ceremonial lighting for the town that continues this year, we have always been trying to bring the community together for the holiday," he said.
As part of the Santa Land motif, there will be a mailbox put up beside Santa this Friday. Any child that writes Santa a letter and drops it in the box with a return address can expect a letter from the big man himself.
The lighting ceremony will be held December 7th.
