Cuts mean lower override request in Medfield
MEDFIELD
Town officials say the override request at Medfield's Town Meeting will likely be $524,000, enough to cover the town's operating deficit.
The original plan involved a $1.1 million Proposition 2 1/2 override, but town officials have been working to lower that number, said Selectman Osler Peterson.
The selectmen learned of the most recent cut during a meeting last week -- a $156,000 reduction that will affect the school, police and public works departments, as well as the Council on Aging. This reduction leaves a $524,000 deficit in the town’s operating budget, Peterson said, and it is likely this figure will be the amount proposed for the override at Town Meeting on April 30.
If the measure passes at Town Meeting, a special election on the override likely would be held within a month, Peterson said.
