Widening budget gap fuels override talk in Plainville

Posted by Ralph Ranalli March 6, 2008 07:47 AM

Funding requests from the local and regional school systems have mushroomed the town of Plainville's projected budget deficit to $2.4 million for the 2009 fiscal year, which begins July 1, Town Administrator Joseph Fernandes said.

Fernandes said a Proposition 2 1/2 override will likely be discussed as a way to bridge the gap, which had previously been estimated at $1.2 million.

Fernandes said he will talk to school leaders about the numbers in the coming weeks, and that selectmen will hold a meeting with department heads later this spring to discuss the budget crisis.
