Debt exclusion fails in Rockport

Posted by Marcia Dick December 2, 2008 12:49 PM

In a Nov. 25 special election, Rockport residents decided against a debt exclusion to finance the purchase of the Granite Savings Bank building on Broadway.

The vote was 790-330 against funding the $894,400 purchase, which had been approved earlier this fall at Town Meeting.

  1. town will come back in the spring for a prop 2 1/2 override.the town of rockport voted to keep the state income tax.not quite sure why a town would keep income tax,and turn down debt exclusion.sounds like a confused electorate?

  1. They kept the state income tax because it was in their interest to do so. Nice flat tax doesn't require that they pay a fair share for the betterment of the commons.
