Belmont tax advocates turn to Facebook and Twitter
Using networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, members of a group pushing for money for the Wellington Elementary School in Belmont are targeting newly registered voters who still feel a connection to the elementary school and were energized by last year's presidential election.
"We're feeling good about Wellington's chances, but I think it's certainly not a stretch to say every vote is going to count," said School Committee member Paul Roberts, who is volunteering to support the Wellington effort. "If we can get even a couple dozen students, it could absolutely be the difference."
Jacob Scharfman, a Belmont High School senior, said some students are planning to vote together the morning of the election, June 8. Seniors graduate the day before, next Sunday, and are holding an all-night party that will end at 5 a.m. Scharfman said they plan to stay up all night, go out for a pancake breakfast, then vote.
"Our elementary school students deserve a new building," said Scharfman, who went to Wellington. "I'm willing to pay for it."

This quite humorous... just as the Commonwealth is having a field day trying to tax its way out of the recession/depression with a 25% hike in the sales tax (which will do wonders for home sales and will be particularly good for retailers... out of state), the cities and towns are also enjoying themselves by pushing through tax overrides in an effort to keep up with the Commonwealth.
Best override is probably for as many people as possible to find a new state to live and work in that does not look first to tax its citizens versus reforming the ridiculous health and pension benefits of its own so-caller 'workers'.
Only an idiot would say someone deserves a new building that others who have their OWN wants are expected to pay for! GEEZ WHAT A SENSE OF ENTITLEMENT!

According to the article Jacob Scharfman is a senior at Belmont High School, does Jacob own property in Belmont? How is Jacob Scharfman going to personally pay for the new Wellington? Easy to commit to paying more in taxes, when you are not picking up the bill..

Everyone has a right to vote at 18. I wish more people would get out and vote like Jacob. He is starting a lifelong habit of participation in politics. Just because he does or does not vote the way you want him to - he still is every bit as entitled to vote as anyone in Belmont.
