Lexington voters approve 2 overrides
LEXINGTON
Lexington voters approved a $3.9 million operating override and a $27.5 million debt-exclusion override for a new Department of Public Works facility today. As the last of the preliminary numbers were called into the Town Clerk's office just after 8 tonight Public Works Director William Hadley received handshakes and congratulations from other town officials crowded in the Town Hall office.
Preliminary results show the new building was approved by a 6,033-5,683 margin. Town Clerk Donna Hooper said that 59 percent of Lexington's 20,000 registered voters came to the polls today. For an average taxpayer in Lexington, whose home is assessed at $729,000, the override approval means a tax increase of approximately $466.
