Andrea J. Cabral
First female and first person of color to serve as Suffolk County sheriff
Appointed by Governor Jane Swift in 2002, Cabral trounced City Councilor Stephen Murphy with 60 percent of the vote in her first full-term election in 2004.
As sheriff, she oversees the cases of more than 2,700 offenders daily. Cabral served as president of the Massachusetts Sheriffs Association in 2008-09.
