State labor department officials said they will more than double cash grants to employers who hire veterans or Massachusetts residents who have been unemployed for six months or more.
The grants will offer employers $5,000 for every veteran or long-term unemployed worker hired, capping the program at $75,000 a year, officials from the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said.
Long-term unemployment has been a persistent problem since the end of the last recession: Record numbers of people who want to work have been unemployed 27 weeks or more.
The grant is part of the Workforce Training Fund Program, managed by the Commonwealth Corporation, a quasigovernmental agency that provides training resources for employers. Awards are subject to funding availability, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. For more information, visit: firstname.lastname@example.org.
