Lunchtime dance party shakes up Boston business scene

There was a funeral Wednesday for business as usual in Boston, and the dirge was played on a turntable pumping out electronic dance music.

District Hall, the newly erected center of the city’s budding Innovation District, transformed itself into a pulsing, strobe-lit dance club during the lunch hour, bringing together for 60 pulse-thumping minutes a new generation of business leaders who already spend their days burying conventions in the ground.

Founders of multimillion-dollar companies, without a gray hair among them, jolted their bodies to the beat of techno tunes blaring from speakers in a blacked-out event hall. Staffers from MassChallenge, one of the biggest and most prestigious business accelerator programs in the world, came in costume. One wore a banana suit.
