Logan-Helsinki route ends, at least for now

As scheduled, Finnair last week concluded its twice-a-week Boeing 757 service from Logan International Airport to Helsinki (above), offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the last two summers. Airport spokesman Phil Orlandella said Logan officials will begin negotiations with Finnair in January about offering the service for a third summer, and ``we're eager to see the Helsinki service extended."

Tracking made easier

The 2,600-location Marriott Hotel chain has begun offering the 24 million members of its frequent-visitor Marriott Rewards a new online ``promotion tracker" service through MarriottRewards.com that shows how members are progressing toward free hotel stays and ``dream vacation" packages and makes it easier to learn about other available promotions.

Beyond standby

Midwest Airlines, whose routes include Boston-Milwaukee and Boston-Kansas City and 47 cities nationwide, has begun offering, for a $25 premium, a ``confirmed standby" option that lets travelers switch to another flight on the same day as a flight they've booked and get a guaranteed seat if it's available, without having to endure the uncertainty of conventional standby.

Emission credits

Tree-hugging road warriors who want to salve their environmental consciences can now buy air-pollution-reduction credits through travel-booking website Expedia.com. Through a deal with TerraPass , an environmental business that funds wind turbines and other projects to reduce ``greenhouse gas" emissions, Expedia.com/activities will let you buy, for example, a $17 voucher that funds projects that offset every molecule of carbon dioxide you'd be responsible for a plane generating on a flight from Boston to San Francisco and back.
