Local students win new scholarships

Rachel Caraviello of Pepperell, Craig Martin of Manchester, N.H., and Megan Varnum of Dracut are three of the first five recipients of a $5,000 college scholarship awarded by Chelmsford-based Brooks Automation Inc. to children of Brooks employees. Caraviello is a marketing major at Cornell University, Martin is an engineering major at the University of New Hampshire, and Varnum is a psychology major at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. The other award recipients are Kelley Shortsleeves of Fitchburg and Kurt Lindgren of Lakewood, Ohio.

Medical program to be held in N.H.

The American College of Chest Physicians will sponsor an annual continuing medical education program for New England members from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. tomorrow at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua. It is the first time that the program will have been held in New Hampshire.

Credit union opens branch in school

Workers' Credit Union has opened a branch office for students and faculty members at Acton-Boxborough Regional High School. Hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students also are being taught about financial matters, such as credit and money-management skills, said Shawn Linehan, manager of the bank's Acton office. The Fitchburg-based bank has another branch at Chelmsford High School, Linehan said.
