Beginning April 20, The Boston Sunday Globe will combine its Business & Money and Careers sections to offer readers more focused coverage on personal finance and the workplace.

By bringing together these two sections, readers will be able to catch up on investing news and career advice in one convenient place.

The section, to be called Money & Careers, will continue to highlight consumer news and feature columnists Scott Kirsner, Maggie Jackson, and Robert Weisman.

Money & Careers also will feature a new two-page package of stories and graphics highlighting the most significant investing events of the week. The presentation will replace the Globe's stock and mutual fund listings.

The first page of the new package, called MarketWeek, will summarize activity in the world's major markets and focus in on five companies whose stocks posted major gains or losses for the week, in addition to listing the biggest gainers and losers both nationally and locally.

The second page, MoneyWeek, includes a new set of data to help consumers make informed financial decisions. An investor calendar will spotlight upcoming events in the business world.

A series of graphics will help consumers understand movements in important economic indicators such as the price of oil, gold, and milk, the unemployment rate, gross domestic product, and consumer prices.

An expanded listing of money rates will help guide consumers as they shop for mortgages, home equity lines of credit, car loans, CDs, and government bonds, as well as inform travelers about exchange rates in 25 popular destinations.

For readers interested in mutual funds, a new table will show weekly and annual returns for the 50 most popular funds in the country.

The Globe's website, Boston .com, will continue to offer a package of interactive tools and market information at boston.com/ business that includes personalized e-mail alerts about stocks and mutual funds.

The Globe also will maintain 24-hour access to up-to-the-minute price quotes on stocks and mutual funds at no charge by telephone, at 800-555-8355.

As part of our enhanced coverage, Boston.com will launch a personal finance blog by Cheryl Costa, a financial adviser with Family Financial Architects Inc. in Natick. She will provide advice and answer questions posted by readers at boston.com/business/ personalfinance.

In eliminating weekly publication of stock and fund listings, the Globe joins a growing number of large newspapers that have moved those tables from the newspaper to other platforms to reduce costs and provide a more compelling package of financial news and information.
