Closing Glance: Dollar rally, Street gain lifts utilities

NEW YORK—Shares of utility company stocks closed higher Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial average ended the day up about 42 points at 12,891.86.

Here is how some utilities companies fared:

American Electric Power Co. Inc. rose 38 cents to $44.28

Pepco Holdings Inc. rose 5 cents to $25.16

Consolidated Edison Inc. rose 30 cents to $41.45

Southern Co. rose 34 cents to $37.10.
