TRESemme sales boost Alberto-Culver 1st-quarter results

MELROSE PARK, Ill. (AP) -- Alberto-Culver Co., which makes beauty-care products, said Monday profit rose 29 percent, helped by sales of its TRESemme shampoo and other products.
Quarterly profit rose to $29 million, or 28 cents per share, from $22.6 million, or 23 cents per share last year. Excluding a restructuring charge and other expenses, net income was 29 cents per share. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial predicted a profit of 28 cents per share.
Revenue rose 8 percent to $412.8 million from $383.4 million last year. Analysts expected higher revenue of $423 million.
Sales of TRESemme products and growth in other beauty care brands including St. Ives and multicultural brands Motions and Soft and Beautiful spurred results, the company said.![]()
