LIVONIA, Mich.—General Motors Corp. executive Matt Cullen is taking a new job running Quicken Loans Inc. Chairman Dan Gilbert's portfolio of companies.

Quicken Loans says Cullen will serve as president and chief operating officer of Rock Enterprises, described as "an umbrella entity" for Gilbert's investments.

Cullen spent 29 years at GM and was its general manager for economic development.

Gilbert says Cullen will lead Gilbert's "Detroit 2.0" development initiatives in downtown Detroit, including Quicken's move from Livonia to Detroit.

Cullen headed GM's $500 million acquisition and development of the Renaissance Center as its headquarters and has played an active role in private-public efforts to rebuild the Detroit riverfront.
