Opening Glance: Rails rise after Burlington, shippers fall

NEW YORK—Shares of railroads rose Wednesday as investors reacted to Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp. first-quarter earnings, which beat Wall Street's expectations. Shippers fell as oil rebounded.

Here's how major players performed early Wednesday:

Union Pacific Corp., up $2.10 to $146.03.

Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., up 90 cents to $103.70.

CSX Corp., up $1.84, or 3 percent, to $63.78.

FedEx Corp., down 44 cents to $96.92.

United Parcel Service Inc., down 2 cents to $73.17.
