Closing Glance: Shares of commercial banks rise with markets

NEW YORK—Commercial bank stocks jumped Thursday as the U.S. dollar rallied and investors were heartened by news consumer spending rose in March and manufacturing contracted less than expected.

How some shares of commercial banks traded:

National City Corp., up 3 cents to $6.33.

Wachovia Corp., up 89 cents, or 3.1 percent, to $30.04.

First Horizon National Corp., up 62 cents, or 5.7 percent, to $11.42.

Zions Bancorp, up $2.99, or 6.5 percent, to $49.34.
