Northeast Utilities reaffirms 2008 outlook

NEW YORK—New England energy provider Northeast Utilities said Thursday it still expects to post 2008 earnings between $1.45 per share and $1.70 per share.

Excluding a litigation settlement charge to Consolidated Edison Inc., the company forecast adjusted profit between $1.65 per share and $1.90 per share.

By that measure, analysts polled by Thomson Financial expect, on average, earnings of $1.78 per share for the year.

Shares rose 73 cents, or 2.8 percent, to close at $27.05.
