Safeway to offer economic stimulus discounts to shoppers
PLEASANTON, Calif.—Grocer Safeway Inc. said Thursday it will offer its Club Card customers a 10 percent discount on groceries if they cash their economic stimulus checks at Safeway-owned stores.
Shoppers who bring in their checks starting on May 14 can get them cashed for free and will receive a certificate for the discount that can be used the same day or the following day.
"Our program provides consumers the freedom to allocate their rebates according to their needs, while enjoying a 10 percent savings if they spend some of it at Safeway," said Chief Executive Steve Burd.
The offer begins on May 14 and runs through July 19.
Safeway said it will also offer Club Card specials throughout the store during the same period.
Safeway shares rose 22 cents to close at $31.82.![]()
