CenterPoint Energy to sell $300 million in unsecured notes

NEW YORK—Electric and gas utility CenterPoint Energy Inc. said Friday it plans to sell $300 million worth of senior unsecured notes.

The notes carry an interest rate of 6.5 percent, with interest paid twice annually, and come due in 2018. The Houston-based company announced the sale in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

CenterPoint shares rose 14 cents to $15.69 in afternoon trading.
