WARRENVILLE, Ill.—Heavy truck maker Navistar International Corp. said Monday that its Navistar Defense LLC received a three-year U.S. Army contract worth nearly $1.3 billion.

Under the follow-on contract, Navistar Defense will provide medium tactical vehicles and spare parts to the Afghanistan National Police, Afghan National Army and the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.

The contract comes after a $430 million contract awarded in 2005 to Navistar by the Army for more than 2,900 vehicles and spare parts.

About half of the new order, which involves 7,072 vehicles and parts, will be delivered during the first year of the contract, with nearly 1,000 units expected to be delivered in fiscal 2008, Navistar said.
