CBRL same-store restaurant and retail sales dip in April
LEBANON, Tenn.—CBRL Group Inc., which operates Cracker Barrel Old Country Store restaurants and gift shops, said Tuesday same-store restaurant sales fell 0.9 percent in April.
For the five-week period ended May 2, same-store retail sales fell 9.7 percent.
Same-store sales, or sales in stores or restaurants open at least one year, is a key gauge of a retailer's performance because it measures sales at existing stores rather than newly opened ones.
The Lebanon, Tenn.-based company said results were hurt by the timing of the Easter holiday, which fell in March this year. However, restaurants had a 4.4 percent higher average check on 4.5 percent higher average menu pricing.
In the fiscal third quarter, same-store restaurant sales rose 0.2 percent while same-store retail sales fell 2.1 percent.![]()
