DENVER—Frontier Airlines Holdings Inc. says the number of passengers it carried increased in April from a year ago.

The Denver-based carrier said Tuesday that it carried 878,837 passengers in April, a 6.5 percent rise from the 825,329 reported for the same period last year. Frontier filled 81.5 percent of its seats, up from 77.2 percent in April 2007.

Lynx Aviation, Frontier's regional turboprop operation, carried 60,851 passengers in April, filling 58 percent of its seats.

The subsidiary started flying the turboprops in December.

Frontier Airlines sought bankruptcy protection in April after its principal credit card processor said it would begin withholding a greater share of proceeds from ticket sales.
