NEW YORK—Shares of broadline retailers closed lower on Thursday following April same-store sales results that showed consumers continue to rein in spending.
Monthly sales reports issued Thursday were better than expected, but discounters fared the best, while retailers selling clothes and other non-necessities fared worse.
Here's how broadline retailers fared on Thursday:
Sears Holdings Corp., down $1.49 to $93.45.
Target Corp., down $1.10, or 2.1 percent, to $52.34.
Costco Wholesales Corp., down 88 cents to $71.20.
BJ Wholesale Club Inc., down $1.21, or 3.1 percent, to $37.73.![]()
