ST. LOUIS—Patriot Coal Corp. said Monday that Paul H. Vining, president and chief executive of Magnum Coal Co., will become Patriot's president and chief operating officer when Patriot's acquisition of Magnum closes.
Vining became Magnum's chief executive in late 2005 and has more than 30 years of experience in the coal mining industry. Before joining Magnum and its predecessor company, Vining was senior vice president of marketing and trading at Arch Coal.
Patriot's $709 million acquisition of Magnum remains subject to certain other approvals and closing conditions, including approval by Patriot stockholders, Patriot said.
The deal is expected to close around midyear.
