DEERFIELD, Ill.—Fortune Brands Inc. said Tuesday it would record a $100 million pretax restructuring charge when it reports fourth-quarter and full-year results.

The charges mostly relate to restructuring efforts within the company's home and hardware segment, according to a regulatory filing.

The company said it was restructuring the unit to enhance its position in the "challenging" economic environment.

Fortune Brands, based in suburban Chicago, makes wine and spirits, home and hardware products as well as golf equipment.

The company has not yet announced when it will report fourth-quarter results.

Its shares fell 32 cents to close at $42.10 Tuesday.
