Wal-Mart Stores Inc., the world's largest retailer, started free mail-order delivery of generic prescription drugs in Michigan yesterday in a test aimed at expanding pharmacy sales.
Consumers in the state can call a toll-free telephone number to order more than 3,300 prescriptions, including a 90-day supply of 300 generic medicines for $10 each, Wal-Mart said.
Wal-Mart's US stores have drawn more consumers battered by the recession with its $4 prescriptions. Drugstore rivals including CVS Caremark Corp. and Walgreen Co. already offer mail-order delivery of medicines.
Wal-Mart hasn't set a timeline to determine whether to expand the mail-order program beyond Michigan, a spokeswoman said.![]()
